BAp95 and BAp90 are biochemical markers for the lateral heterogeneity of the basal bodies. BAp90 is associ- ated with the microtubular tripletts nos. (6), 7, 8, 9 and 1, whereas BAp95 is associated with the microtubular triplets nos. 4, 5 and 6. Centrin does not exhibit the same selectivity with respect to its association with micro- tubular triplets: the distal connecting fiber (dcf) associates with 7 out of the 9 triplets of the basal body.
